Cognac Lheraud 1970 Bons Bois 20cl (Selection 2026)

This Cognac was made in 1970 by Cognac Lheraud from Ugni Blanc grapes in Bons Bois (Cognac), France.

It aged for 54 years in a humid cellar and was bottled at 48% cask strength in 2025 (12/2025). It was distilled in an Alambic Charentais (pot still).

The oldest of our 15, and the oldest vintage still on Lhéraud's official price list at all, since anything older the family only releases as single bottles from its private stock. Very intense in the glass, the sweetness is there but just right, and after 54 years the oak is beautifully integrated, with hardly any tannins. The slight alcohol note from my first tasting fades after a few minutes in the glass. For anyone who wants the oldest one and likes intensity.

Two years ago Lhéraud filled small sample bottles of all 35 vintages in its cellar for Nicolas Kröger and me. After a three-hour session in Vienna and many more rounds at home, we picked our 15 favourites, and Lhéraud bottled 12 of each in 20 cl as a limited edition exclusive to Armagnac.de.

Lhéraud normally bottles its vintages only in the house's black, mouth-blown bottle. At 20 cl it is much easier to open an old vintage, taste two or three side by side or give someone their birth year. Each bottle comes in a black gift box with Lhéraud, the cru and “Sélection 2026” embossed in gold and the vintage in blue handwriting.

Bottled at cask strength, with no additives and without chill filtration. The date on the label is the day the cognac left the cask: since someone from the BNIC has to be present whenever a vintage cask is opened, Lhéraud fills a little extra into bottles and demijohns, and our 20 cl come from that reserve.
