Cognac Lheraud 1977 Petite Champagne 20cl (Selection 2026)
This Cognac was made in 1977 by Cognac Lheraud from Ugni Blanc grapes in Petite Champagne (Cognac), France.
It aged for 46 years in a humid cellar and was bottled at 46% cask strength in 2024 (04/2024). It was distilled in an Alambic Charentais (pot still).
One of my top scores in the first round, and my notes give the reason in one word: peach. It reminds me of my very first Lhéraud vintage, the 1965 Grande Champagne we opened when we founded Grape of the Art. Lovely fruity sweetness and very intense! The 2024 on the label is not a mistake: in April 2024 it moved from the cask into Lhéraud's glass reserve. For anyone looking for a fruity, intense cognac with that peach note.
Two years ago Lhéraud filled small sample bottles of all 35 vintages in its cellar for Nicolas Kröger and me. After a three-hour session in Vienna and many more rounds at home, we picked our 15 favourites, and Lhéraud bottled 12 of each in 20 cl as a limited edition exclusive to Armagnac.de.
Lhéraud normally bottles its vintages only in the house's black, mouth-blown bottle. At 20 cl it is much easier to open an old vintage, taste two or three side by side or give someone their birth year. Each bottle comes in a black gift box with Lhéraud, the cru and “Sélection 2026” embossed in gold and the vintage in blue handwriting.
Bottled at cask strength, with no additives and without chill filtration. The date on the label is the day the cognac left the cask: since someone from the BNIC has to be present whenever a vintage cask is opened, Lhéraud fills a little extra into bottles and demijohns, and our 20 cl come from that reserve.
