Malternative Belgium Cognac #25 Madame Pivoine (Lot 25)

Dieser Cognac wurde von 1925 von einem unbekannten Produzenten aus Folle Blanche Trauben in Borderies (Cognac), Frankreich hergestellt. Pieter entdeckte diese Rarität in den Kellern von Héritage René Rivière, wo sie von Jean-Jacques Vidal gehütet wurde.

Er reifte für 57 Jahre in einem Fass aus französischer Eiche und wurde 1983 in ein eine Dame Jeanne aus Glas umgefüllt. 2023 (08/2023) wurde der Cognac von Malternative Belgium in Fassstärke mit 48.1% in die Flasche abgefüllt. Für die Destillation wurde eine Alambic Charentais (Pot Still) verwendet.

Pieter von Malternative Belgium schreibt zu diesem Cognac: "This cognac is an incredibly versatile distillate from between two world wars. Long one side tasty dry peaches and figs, raisins, leather and soft licorice. Brioche with almonds and salted caramel topping. Very floral too, jasmine and flattened dandelion. Incredibly pleasant punch, explosive. Rancio from the beginning to the end. Speechless. What a finish!

This will be our 6th release of this paradise of a cellar. In Saint-Sulpice de Cognac lies the beautiful domain "Chez Gauthier" of Jean-Jacques Vidal. This cognac comes from the Borderies, the smallest of the 6 crus and is 100% folle blanche grape. A grape that was severely tested by the phyloxera crisis around 1875. The vineyards of the Rivière family were spared so that this cognac could still be distilled in 1925. The producer of these cognacs has unfortunately died a few decades ago, but the demi johns that are still present are well preserved by descendant Jean-Jacques Vidal. JJ, a retired professor, is one of those characters that made us fall in love with the cognac region and its heritage. Going for coffee at JJ's is like a museum visit where you absorb the stimuli at your own pace. JJ is still witty and cheerful, walks through a super social life as a curator, art collector, protector of the cognac heritage and proud representative of his family's old stocks.

It will therefore not surprise you that these cognacs are highly regarded in France. Many know the exceptional qualities of these cognacs. You may think, another old Rivère? We think the other way around, we can count ourselves lucky to be able to bottle such treasures and therefore don't miss the opportunity. In this way we contribute to the protection of the movable heritage of the cognac region."
