Join Shane Pearlman & Diego Borras, sherry cask broker and organizer of Whisky Live Madrid, for an evening of excellent wine plus a solid conversation on the role that Sherry plays on the aging of spirits. We’ll taste each of the main styles (except cream sherry - you can raid grammie’s cabinet for that) while we break down the basics and then get as geeky as we want. Bonus - Diego speaks perfect English! No translation needed.

Why Sherry?!? Cuz it's delicious. You might just end up with another vice. And before using specialized casks, Scotch whisky was often stored in barrels that previously held fish, meat, or other goods. Thank god this isn’t a herring masterclass, right! One release of Fishky is enough for everyone. 

By the early 1800s, sherry wine from Jerez de la Frontera became one of the hottest commodities in the UK market and the dominant drink of the Victorian era. Once emptied, these casks became available to distillers who realized that the matured whisky was just tastier after a little rest in a sherry cask. Queue Macallan, Glendronach, Aberlour, Highland Park and so many more legends.
